During the Cold War era, the Soviet Union needed a transport that's big enough to carry their space shuttle Buran. Having to be the largest transport aircraft manufacture, the Antonove Design Bureau was giving the task to build an aircraft that's able to carry Buran.

The Antonov Design Bureau simply took the Antonov 124, made it bigger and put on two extra engines, the An-225 was born.
The An-225 is now part of the Antonov Airline which transport over sized cargo that no other airliners can carry.
